The purpose of the Business Partner - People & Capability (P&C) is to provide generalist advice, employee relations support and coaching across their customer group in support of the pursuit of SMCT’s strategic objectives and goals. Managing a diverse range of stakeholders, the Business Partner P&C will provide advice and support to Leaders, while working as part of a talented and credible People and Capability Team.

Current Opportunity

We now have a 2 year contract opportunity for a strong HR generalist professional to join our high functioning team.

Specific Functions/Responsibilities

Partnering with Customer
  • Building strong relationships with customer base and acting as a single point of the contact for employees and leaders to provide contemporary, specialist HR advice, support and solutions
  • Proactively supports and leads the delivery of HR processes and initiatives across the full employee life cycle and through the 5-Star Service Proposition within customer function.
Employee Relations
  • Support business leaders in the development and execution of effective communication plans and action plans in support of employee engagement
  • Support, develop and coach people leaders to manage employee relations issues using the organisation’s policies, procedures and best practice, ideally resolving issues where possible informally
  • In partnership with the HSW team, ensure employee health, safety, welfare, wellness are monitored in conjunction with Safety Leadership initiatives across all employees of SMCT
  • Support leaders in the negotiation and development of relevant enterprise agreements to support organisational objectives
  • Ensure all risks are appropriately assessed and mitigated
  • Understand, interpret and apply EA, Award and contract provisions as applicable
Reward and Remuneration
  • Advise on pay and other remuneration matters, including promotion and benefits
  • Lead and support line managers with PwP and salary review process within customer group
  • In partnership with the P&C Coordinator and the Payroll Administrator, maintain accurate payroll and database employee records for customer group.
Developing Others
  • Work with L&D Coordinator to support, develop and coach leaders in relation to their approach and consideration of people issues, ensuring that they understand the impact of these on the individual and the organisation
  • Assist in the development of targeted coaching and training plans to improve and support employee performance
  • Monitor the integration and performance of new employees through orientation to support their early development and contribution.
Administration, Systems and Records
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of P&C policies and procedures based on relevant legislation and contemporary HR practices to provide effective, consistent and timely delivery of service to Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust to support organisational needs
  • Provide timely, accurate and appropriate contributions to P&C metrics and monthly reports.
P&C Projects & Team Support
  • Undertake project work in support of P&C strategic plans and deliverables in conjunction with the Service Delivery Manager
  • Actively contribute to P&C team meetings, planning sessions and to the development of a high performance P&C team.
  • Be a backup to and act as a point of contact for managers and employees in the resolution of generalist P&C enquires when required.
Selection Criteria

We are looking for the best talent in the market for our team and for us this looks like:
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications and demonstrated comprehensive experience within the HR Generalist space
  • Previous experience working within complex, multi-site, unionised operational and white collar environments
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of a range of diverse employee related services including the application of awards and conditions of employment
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong capabilities to engage, influence and partner with stakeholders
  • Innovative, resilient thinker that is able to create solutions beyond current boundaries
  • Practical, commercial and team orientated approach.
