Permanent HR job on West Coast of Cape York in Far North Queensland for seekers of $80K pa + accommodation

Your new company
This is a unique opportunity to situate yourself in Far North Queensland on the Western Coast of Cape York where you will work for a close group of employees and community members comprising an Aboriginal Community Council. In 2004, the Council was incorporated under the Local Government Act and is home to the Thaatoye, Wik, Bakanh and Yir Yoront People. The team, comprising approximately 75 field workers and 10 corporate services staff, is based on the Cape with a small satellite office in Cairns.

Your new role
Based on the Western Coast of Cape York and reporting to the Finance Manager, you will occupy this new, joint position which combines the responsibilities of Human Resources and Corporate Governance. Your strategic objectives will be managing the development of HR policies and procedures, lead a business plan supporting improved service delivery, and providing strategic advice in relation to governance, legal and property matters. From an operational perspective, you will process payroll, conduct recruitment, administer training and work cooperatively across Council stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of priority projects.

What you'll need to succeed
This is a rare permanent job opportunity located approximated 650 km west of Cairns and 500 km from the tip of North Australia. You will be determined to move or stay residential to the local area and immerse yourself in the tight-knit nature of this Aboriginal Shire Council. You demonstrate experience in a Human Resources Generalist role and have exposure to payroll processing, employee benefits program administration and maintaining updated HR records. You have an appreciation for local government acts and regulations and can interpret relevant legislation and policies to ensure these inform Council strategy and delivery. Candidates that demonstrate they are up to date on the priorities affecting the local region will be highly regarded.

What you'll get in return
Shortlisted candidates will demonstrate the commitment and desire to relocate to the Western Cape York region where you will be provided a competitive annual salary, subsidized and fully furnished accommodation, access to a company vehicle for work purposes and a generous annual leave package. This supportive Local Aboriginal Council will encourage you to pursue professional development opportunities of interest. There are a variety of interesting work opportunities within the Council for the partners or family members that are relocating to the region with the successful candidate.
