Fantastic career opportunity! We are looking for an enthusiastic HR & Payroll Coordinator who likes an interesting and varied role, to join our small friendly customer-focused team.

About the Role

The HR Team provides HR and Payroll services to all of Emerald Grain.  The Services include recruitment, preparing contracts, on-boarding, learning and development, payroll (weekly and monthly), work cover, change management and other HR Services.  The successful candidate for this role will provide support to the HR team in providing these services.  You will have contact with all employees at Emerald Grain as well as external candidates and service providers via email and telephone so excellent customer service and communication skills are essential. 

Your key responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Coordinating the end to end recruitment of all employees at our Grain Export Terminal in West Melbourne including advertising, shortlisting candidates, scheduling interviews, preparing interview guides, conducting interviews, candidate management, reference checking, and management of pre-employment screening.
  • Providing assistance to HR Manager with all other company-wide recruitment
  • Assisting with the Recruitment, on-boarding and training of harvest casual employees
  • Assisting with the communication process of all HR related policies and procedures.
  • Preparing contracts of employment
  • Preparing new employee starter packs and assisting with on-boarding staff
  • Assisting with the weekly and monthly payroll process.
  • Assisting the Payroll Specialist and Finance team with the monthly and year-end processes.
  • Processing and managing claims for Workers Compensation including providing advice and assistance to injured employees and supervisors on the return to work and our injury management process.
  • Assisting with coordinating companywide training
  • Maintaining records ensuring the integrity of data in our HR & Payroll Systems
  • Preparing reports and metrics
  • Updating and maintaining policies and the organisational chart
  • Assisting employees with HR and Payroll related enquiries

You will have the following profile of skills and experience:

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent customer-service skills
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy and strong numeric skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and empathy to form close relationships with employees, service providers and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • An ability to maintain confidentiality and be a supportive team player
  • Good computer skills
  • Initiative and the ability to work unsupervised

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience with Payroll Systems, preferably with experience in using Preceda & Emplive
  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources would be highly regarded
  • Previous experience with work cover and return to work
