The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is seeking a highly motivated, outcome driven senior executive to fill the position of Assistant Director-General People, based in Canberra ACT. 

The position reports directly to the First Assistant Director-General (FADG) Corporate, works closely with the Director-General and Executive, and is responsible for shaping and running the newly established People Branch. The successful applicant will have a demonstrated ability to deliver organisational outcomes the human resource management function, including workforce strategy and planning, people management, workplace health and safety, people policy, attraction and recruitment, industrial relations and stakeholder management. 

Aligned to ASD’s new position as a statutory authority, the role will reform and grow an agile, flexible and responsive people and HR capability. It is responsible for the development and delivery of key workforce strategies to underpin an effective, safe and resilient organisation. The role makes a critical contribution to ASD’s ability to recruit, develop and retain a workforce with relevant capacity and capability to deliver against ASD’s mission objectives and commitment to Government, and build ASD’s employment brand in the marketplace. This role provides the opportunity to offer a fresh perspective to current practices in a positive and constructive way in pursuit of strategic alignment, cultural transformation and continuous improvement. 

This role leads a team delivering strategic and operational outcomes through both corporate-focused activities and on-the-ground engagement and support to managers and staff, working in a shared services environment. The role is responsible for ensuring appropriate compliance with ASD’s legislative employment framework, people policy and processes, and providing advice, reporting and analysis to a range of internal and external users to assist the achievement of ASD and unit resource plans. This role is also responsible for developing and sustaining effective and collaborative relationships with management across ASD and external stakeholders such as Department of Defence, Australian Public Service Commission, and other Government entities. Experience working within the National Intelligence Community is not required.

The successful applicant will also have the demonstrated ability to operate in accordance with, and actively promote ASD’s values and the Defence Leadership Behaviours, which will continue to be adopted and implemented within ASD. The remuneration package includes superannuation, an Executive Vehicle allowance and, where applicable, relocation expenses. The salary component for this position may be negotiated with the successful candidate.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing basis or for a specified term. To be eligible for engagement, an applicant must be, or intend to become, a permanent Australian citizen. This is a security-designated position. The successful applicant will be required to undergo security assessments to the highest level and must be able to be cleared to Top Secret Positive Vetting.
