About the Opportunity

Moree Plains Shire Council now has an exciting opportunity for a HR Officer (Return to Work/ Health and Wellbeing) to join their team in Moree, Northern NSW, approximately 1.5 hours drive from the Queensland border. This is a full-time role, working approx. 35 hours a week.

Reporting to the HR Manager, this is a highly varied role that will see you providing general HR support and advice, with a focus on return to work and health/wellbeing activities, such as assisting with the development of systems that promote a healthy work environment. You will also be facilitating the effective rehabilitation of ill or injured workers of Moree Plains Shire Council in order to minimise the impact of injuries on the Workers Compensation Insurance premium.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing health screen information to manage intake risk equitably and without discrimination, guiding managers with strategies to reasonably accommodate presenting health risks;
  • Liaising with health professionals, the HR Manager, insurers, internal managers and other professionals, to facilitate return-to-work outcomes and identify any liability issues;
  • Facilitating the delivery of health and wellbeing programs such as immunisation, hearing assessments or mental health awareness, in accordance with Council’s requirements and budgets;
  • Completing quarterly claims reviews with StateCover and relevant stakeholders to discuss strategy and requirements of the claim’s management;
  • Presenting regular reports to the WHS Committee and Risk Management Group (RMG), in relation to rehabilitation and return to work targets; and
  • Developing employee resources, knowledge, training and education in relation to the requirements of the Workers Compensation Act and rehabilitation processes.

About You

To be considered you will have relevant qualifications and experience as a generalist Human Resource Officer and will be required to develop the specific competencies which are required to operate as Council’s lead in  injury management, RTW systems, workers compensation insurance, and employee wellbeing initiatives. Council will commit to supporting the successful employee to formalise their qualifications in this area within 3 months of commencement. This will be achieved through the appointment of an employee who has demonstrated a commitment to learning and development via formal training and expert mentoring.

While demonstrated working experience is desirable, recent graduates are also encouraged to apply.

Strong interpersonal skills are a must-have required of this role, as is the ability to juggling multiple priorities at once, with great time management. A patient and empathetic communicator, you will be able to work with and support staff at all levels, and be committed to confidentiality and sensitivity.

You'll have the emotional intelligence needed to build and maintain positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, building trust and acting with compassion, particularly when dealing with people who are injured, in chronic pain or dealing with mental health issues.

A current Class C Driver’s Licence with the ability to operate a manual vehicle in addition to right to live and work in Australia is a requirement of this position.
