The Illawarra Aboriginal Corporation (IAC) was formed in 1980 for the purpose of achieving excellence in providing advocacy and culturally appropriate services to meet the social, cultural and economic needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Illawarra Region.  The IAC Aboriginal owned and operated and delivers a range of programs including

  • Cultural Centre & Keeping Place – providing cultural services including cultural training, meeting rooms, exhibitions and other cultural activities
  • Myimbarr - Permanency Support (OOHC) & Family Preservation
  • Housing – Social Housing and Specialist Homelessness Services
  • Warrigal Employment - Aboriginal Employment and Training, Driver License Access Program, and Koori Strong
  • Aged & Disability – Home care for Elders within the community as well as disability services through NDIS Support Coordination
  • Noogaleek Children’s Centre and Winnanggay preschools support the Educational, Health and Welfare needs of children and families attending our service

Position Details

We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to provide advice and guidance to management and employees on all aspects of HR and the employee life cycle including but not limited to

  • Workforce planning and recruitment
  • Learning and development planning and performance development
  • Employee relations, performance management and grievances
  • Policy review and development
  • Workplace health and safety and management of workers compensation cases
  • Development of strategies to improve the organisation culture and employee engagement

To be successful in this position you will need;

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Bachelor’s degree) in Human Resources or related field
  • Substantial experience within Human Resources including delivering HR solutions and services to NGO’s, Not for Profit Organisations or Community organisations
  • Significant experience assisting managers with performance development and management, implementing change and developing positive workplace culture
  • Demonstrated cultural knowledge and experience working with cultural sensitivity with members of the Aboriginal community
  • Experience working within or knowledge of Out of Home Care and/or Social Housing
  • Thorough knowledge of Employment legislation and the Award framework
  • Strong verbal communication skills including negotiation, facilitation and influencing skills
  • Highly developed written communications skills with experience writing policies, reports, briefings and a variety of correspondence
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office, SharePoint, payroll and HRIS systems
  • Confirmation of Aboriginality or experience working within an Aboriginal organisation will be highly regarded

Mandatory requirements for this position are NSW Driver’s Licence and Current Working with Children Check and National Criminal History Check.
