Your new company
This Australian Government organisation is looking for a WHS Officer to provide support to the Work Health and Safety team and work with the business areas to reduce the impact of injury in the workplace and to assist in building a culture of wellbeing. The role works closely with employees and managers, supporting them in managing health matters in accordance with relevant legislation and policy and will also assist in the delivery of staff Wellbeing initiatives.

Your new role

  • Undertake procedural and administrative support and operational tasks to assist in the efficient and effective delivery of WHS services including management of email correspondence to a centralised mailbox
  • Maintain consistent and effective records and produce accurate data and reports via proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Co-ordinate the vaccination program, workplace inspections process and Workplace Contact Officer Network, including first aid officers, emergency wardens, harassment contact officers and health and safety representatives
  • Manage less complex early intervention cases including arranging workstation assessments, sourcing and purchasing ergonomic equipment, following up with staff and managers on implementation of assessment recommendations, and monitoring costs associated with case management with the support and guidance of the team
  • Support incident and hazard reporting and intervention activities, including stakeholder engagement, incident investigation and corrective action management
  • Manage procurement and contract management processes for WHS related service providers and equipment suppliers
  • Provide secretariat support for the national WHS Committee
  • Assist in reviewing and developing standard operating procedures, checklists, WHS intranet content
  • Assist in the implementation of wellbeing programs and initiatives including events and awareness raising

What you'll need to succeed

  • Tertiary qualifications in HR/WHS and/or experience working in HR/WHS in an Australian Public Service (APS) environment is highly desirable
  • An understanding of relevant WHS legislation, policy and procedures in the APS context
  • High level organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to effectively prioritise requests while maintaining high standards and accuracy
