The Future Submarine Program (FSP), Australia’s largest Defence program, has taken on the challenge to deliver to the Royal Australian Navy a regionally superior, sovereign Submarine capability.

Submarines are a unique Defence capability and play an essential role in supporting Australia's maritime security, and your work within the program, by engaging with Navy and Industry suppliers will ensure that Navy has an enduring and potent Submarine capability. By taking up this challenge and joining the team you will be at the forefront of shaping a major Defence Capability that is essential to the future operations of Navy.

The position will provide the right candidate with the opportunity to gain exposure and experience in a unique and complex acquisition and sustainment environment shaping Australia’s future maritime Defence capability.

As the Work Health Safety Officer you will be responsible for ensuring Future Submarine Program is compliant with the WHS Act and Defence/Capability Acquisition & Sustainment Group WHS requirements. In addition to a strong focus on compliance, the position will centre on enhancing safety behaviours and culture by including WHS of People as a considered and integrated aspect of BAD in the FSP.

Tasks and duties:

  • Establishing and maintaining the FSP WHS framework in accordance with Defence requirements and legislative policy;
  • Identify, evaluate, and control occupational health hazards in accordance with specified Programs;
  • Provide WHS advice to stakeholders, including assessments and recommendations on WHS deliverables from the major contracts, and individual WHS obligations and requirements;
  • Actively manage key stakeholder relationships and identify relevant stakeholders’ expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes.
