APS6 HR Generalist, Performance and Code - Contract

Join a respected federal government agency in Canberra and contribute to high-impact HR advisory work. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced APS6 HR professional to support performance, conduct, and broader people and culture initiatives in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

Your new role

You will provide expert advice across performance management, code of conduct matters, employee relations, and HR operations. You'll manage sensitive cases, support managers through performance processes, and contribute to policy development and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Advise on performance management, workplace behaviour, and code of conduct issues
  • Manage end-to-end processes for performance improvement and conduct investigations
  • Prepare documentation including case summaries, briefings, and correspondence
  • Ensure compliance with APS employment frameworks, legislative requirements and procedural fairness
  • Facilitate dispute resolution and support effective early intervention and local resolution where possible
  • Support a psychosocial wellbeing and positive workplace culture through fair and consistent HR practices

What you'll need to succeed

  • Demonstrated experience in HR advisory roles within the APS or similar environment
  • Strong understanding of the APS Code of Conduct, performance frameworks, and employment legislation
  • Ability to manage sensitive employee relations matters with discretion
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and exercise sound judgement
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing capabilities
  • Proficiency in HR systems and reporting tools
  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field (highly desirable)

Highly desirable

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, industrial relations, investigations, or related fields
  • Ability to obtain and maintain minimum Baseline security clearance
