Your new role
An exciting opportunity is available for a skilled and motivated Work Health and Safety (WHS) professional to join a highly performing team within a federal government department. As an APS6 WHS Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of the department's Work Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS). This position combines a highly technical knowledge of WHS risks with a practical management approach.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about workplace safety and looking to make a meaningful impact across a diverse and dynamic organisation.
What you'll need to succeed
Minimum current Baseline Security clearance, NV1 or NV2 clearance preferred.
To thrive in this role, you will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in the WHS profession, with a strong understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, and policies.
- In-depth knowledge of WHS management for risks including asbestos, biological hazards, high risk work, hazardous chemicals, and psychosocial risk.
- Proven understanding of auditing, as well as contract and contractor management.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and resolve conflicts effectively.
- Experience in monitoring and auditing WHS performance, incident investigation, and reporting.
- Tertiary qualification in Workplace Health and Safety (highly desirable).
