About the opportunity

The Senior WHS Advisor works in collaboration with all staff to ensure the effective management and implementation of CASA’s work health and safety management system and compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act). 

This role supports the day-to-day management and implementation of CASA’s work health and safety programs, including wellbeing and other related human resource management strategies such as the employee assistance program. The role supports the development and maintenance of WHS policies, procedures and guidance in accordance with the WHS legislation and CASA’s strategic direction. 

The Senior WHS Advisor is responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Supporting CASA’s WHS compliance by maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of relevant WHS legislation, policy and practices and providing WHS information and advice to CASA’s executive and staff.
  • Developing and implementing WHS, wellbeing and other related human resource management strategies including the employee assistance program.
  • Interpreting, drafting and reviewing WHS management system documentation including policies, procedures, risk assessments and supporting documentation and information.
  • Supporting the WHS consultation process and secretariat function of the National Health and Safety Committee and local consultative forums to enable engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Overseeing the management of WHS support functions including the First Aid Officers, Work Group Managers and Health and Safety Representatives ensuring compliance with the WHS Act.
  • Assisting with procurement processes, contract management and preparation of financial, budget and reporting matters in accordance with CASA procedures.
  • Conducting WHS risk assessments and audits; managing reported incidents and hazards, assisting work groups to implement preventative systems to reduce further workplace risk and incidents.
  • Collaborating with CASA’s early intervention and case management function to deliver and support quality early intervention strategies and rehabilitation programs.
  • Promote WHS, equity and diversity and participative management and environmental management practices in the workplace and act in accordance with CASA’s Values and Code of Conduct.
  • As an employee, contribute to maintaining a positive health and safety culture at CASA, including psychosocial wellbeing in the workplace and providing input, where appropriate, to decisions that may impact upon their health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace.
Our ideal candidate
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of WHS management and employee wellbeing programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of WHS management systems and WHS records management, data entry and analysis.
  • Experience in WHS risk management, consultation and incident management.
  • Strong attention to detail, along with demonstrated ability to meet tight timeframes whilst delivering high quality outcomes.
  • Knowledge and experience in interpreting and applying the WHS legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience in report writing and preparation of correspondence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence WHS outcomes to support CASA business areas with the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • A WHS related qualification such as a Diploma or Certificate IV in WHS (or equivalent) would be desirable.

Employment with CASA is subject to conditions prescribed within the Civil Aviation Act 1988. The following eligibility requirements apply to this position:

  • At minimum, prospective CASA employees must undergo pre-employment screening. You must be willing to provide required information to successfully undergo a police record check.
  • Must be an Australian citizen or Permanent Resident and must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
