About the opportunity
This role reports to the Team Leader WHS, under the guidance of the Section Manager People, Performance, WHS and Workplace Relations.
The WHS Advisor is responsible for researching, planning and developing policy, procedures and guidelines to implement new initiatives across a range of work health and wellbeing issues, with particular responsibility to monitor and maintain the compliance elements and the day-to-day activities to deliver work health safety initiatives and wellbeing programs. The role requires effective interaction between other sections of the People and Capability Branch, as well as other operational and enabling areas.
The WHS Advisor is responsible for the following deliverables:
- Assisting and supporting the WHS Team Leader to project manage, develop and implement contemporary work health and safety, wellbeing and other related human resource management strategies specifically as required under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act).
- Undertaking research and preparing documentation including policies, processes and work practices in relation to a range of work health and safety, wellbeing and human resource matters.
- Preparing and maintaining appropriate records and data management and assist in the development of statistical and analytical reports of CASA’s workplace safety compliance.
- Liaising with a range of internal and external stakeholders on relevant WHS matters.
- Carrying out administrative tasks to including coordinating/assisting the team to arrange meetings, forums and programs, first aid services, employee assistance program, audiometric testing, WHS training, vaccination and alcohol and other drug testing programs.
- Conducting WHS risk assessments and audits, managing reported incidents and hazards, assisting work groups to implement preventative strategies to continuously improve and reduce work health and safety risks and incidents.
- Collaborating with CASA’s early intervention and case management function to deliver and support quality early intervention strategies and rehabilitation programs.
- Assisting with contract management relating to WHS contracts.
- Accurately input, update and analyse data and WHS records in accordance with document control and records management principles.
- Promote WHS, equity and diversity and participative management and environmental management practices in the workplace and act in accordance with CASA’s Values and Code of Conduct.
- As an employee, contribute to maintaining a positive health and safety culture at CASA, including psychosocial wellbeing in the workplace and providing input, where appropriate, to decisions that may impact upon their health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace.
- Demonstrated experience in the delivery of WHS administration services and advisory duties, including supporting projects.
- Demonstrated experience in researching matters, interpreting and understanding legislation, report writing and preparation of correspondence.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with stakeholders, including strong verbal and written communication skills to build and maintain professional networks.
- Experience with Aurion and/or other human resources information management system (HRIMS) or database management programs with capacity to extract and format data for reports.
- A WHS related qualification such as Certificate IV Work Health Safety (or equivalent) would be desirable.

- At minimum, prospective CASA employees must undergo pre-employment screening. You must be willing to provide required information to successfully undergo a police record check.
- Must be an Australian citizen or Permanent Resident and must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
