Hays is currently partnering with one of Australia's largest independent corporate law firms to recruit a People and Development Advisor in Brisbane.

Your new role

The People & Development Advisor, reporting to the CPO, oversees both operational and some strategic HR functions within a location, responsible for providing services such as employee relations, recruitment, training, and performance management. This role demands exceptional communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders while serving as a key contact for all people and performance-related enquiries.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:
  • Serve as the primary liaison for people-related matters, advising on office culture, productivity, performance, and confidential issue resolution while ensuring sensitivity and discretion.
  • Deliver expert HR support by attending meetings, addressing performance and conduct concerns, counselling, and managing disciplinary discussions with professionalism.
  • Provide well-informed advice on policies, procedures, industrial instruments, and awards, acting as a trusted advisor to office staff and partners.
  • Oversee and deliver comprehensive training and development initiatives, including staff inductions, junior lawyer programs, and managing and facilitating Seasonal Clerkships and Graduate Program Inductions, while aligning firm needs with individual growth and acting on feedback from Partners.
  • Coordinate the annual performance and development program, oversee salary assessments, manage staff benefits and rewards initiatives, including wellbeing programs, and contribute to salary surveys and reviews to ensure alignment with market standards.
  • Independently provide guidance on industrial legislation changes, HR trends, policy revisions, ensure compliance with Work Health & Safety procedures, and manage the annual practising certificate renewal process in coordination with Office Service Management.
  • With the support of the national recruitment coordinator manage recruitment processes, including resourcing requests, business case preparation, and liaison with recruitment agencies, while ensuring accurate position descriptions and overseeing university career fairs and clerkship programs.
  • Represent the firm positively in public interactions and address general employment enquiries across various communication channels.

What you'll need to succeed

To excel in this role, you should have:
  • Experience dealing with sensitive issues and maintaining confidentiality in a HR role.
  • Experience organising workload and determining priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret and provide advice on legislation, policies and HR functions.
  • Ability to identify, plan and coordinate the delivery of a broad range of HR services.
  • Commitment to equal employment, OH&S and welfare.
  • Professional service experience is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and provide guidance and direction to staff and work collaboratively to achieve outcomes.
